Current projects and programs

The Collections Council of Australia Ltd is aware that many organisations contribute positively to the sector. We aim to complement (not duplicate) their activities by undertaking work that fits within our own terms of reference and company objectives.

Blue Shield Australia
The Blue Shield is the cultural equivalent of the Red Cross. It is the symbol specified in the 1954 Hague Convention for marking cultural sites to give them protection from attack in the event of armed conflict. It is also the name of an international committee set up in 1996 to work to protect the world's cultural heritage threatened by wars and natural disasters.   more...

National Survey of Collections and Facilities
The Collections Council is preparing to survey the status of all public collections and collection storage, treatment and display locations, in all sorts of organisations, in Australia. Round Table for peak bodies in the collections sector
The Collections Council is convening a Round Table meeting in May 2008 for peak bodies (mostly NGOs) in the Australian collections sector.   more...

Significance second edition
The Collections Council of Australia intends to produce a second edition of the Significance publication. We aim to broaden the scope of the first edition by including all four major collecting domains i.e. archives and libraries in addition to museums and galleries. We will also update the publication to take account of new developments and resources since 2001.   more...
