'Collecting Institutions Law' publication introduction

This page was updated on 7 July 2008.

The 'Collecting Institutions Law' project aims to produce a publication on the subject of the business and law of public collecting organisations in Australia. It is intended that the publication be suitable as a reference guide for public museums, libraries, archives and galleries in Australia. The initiator of the project, and author of the forthcoming publication, is Mr Shane Simpson of Simpsons Solicitors (www.simpsons.com.au).

The Collections Council has received a grant from the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts to cover the costs of design and publishing for this online publication. It will be released in stages, and will be freely available from a web-site.

To assist the project, the Collections Council has appointed a Panel of Experts to advise and offer informal assistance to Mr Simpson. Each of these people is respected in the professional community for their expertise in one or more Chapter Areas proposed for the publication. They will provide Mr Simpson with professional insight and information relevant to their Chapter Area.

Mr Simpson is undertaking the project on an honorary basis, and the Experts are assisting him in an honorary / volunteer capacity. The Collections Council of Australia is delighted to be involved with this project, and thanks Mr Simpson and the Experts for their time, energy and good will.
