First regional CollectionsCare hub to be in Western Australia

Following receipt of expressions of interest from a strong field of contenders across Australia, the Collections Council of Australia has selected the Goldfields region of Western Australia as the site of Australia’s first CollectionsCare regional hub.

CollectionsCare aims to develop practical skills and knowledge for paid staff and volunteers, to attract new resources for regional collections, and to unlock the educational, economic and cultural potential of collections held in regional communities.

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will host the first regional hub as a demonstration project for CollectionsCare. Their efforts will be supported through collaboration between the City, the Collections Council of Australia, and the Western Australian Government through its Department of Culture and the Arts.

The Collections Council is contributing $120,000 in funds sourced from the Myer Foundation towards the project, with matching funds coming from the Western Australian Government. In addition, each of the three partner organisations will contribute considerable in-kind support.
