Condolences and support for cultural heritage in Haiti

16 January 2010
latest update 5 February 2010

Blue Shield Australia joins with the international community of the Blue Shield in expressing condolences and support for all affected by the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti.

The International Committee of the Blue Shield (ICBS) has published its first Statement about the Earthquake in Haïti, expressing its sorrow and solidarity with the population of Haiti for the loss of lives and the destructions caused by the earthquake which occurred on 12 January 2010. The Australian Blue Shield community endorses this statement.

Both the ICBS and the Association of National Committees of the Blue Shield (ANCBS) are working to collect information, and to be ready if Haitian colleagues request help in the future.

The ANCBS has created a Facebook group (Haiti 2010 Blue Shield Solidarity) and also a Twitter thread (blueshieldcoop), so that people can share information. These media are also ways by which Blue Shield can send information to its followers.

The ANCBS seeks volunteers who can assist Blue Shield in responding to the damage to cultural heritage in Haiti. The ANCBS has launched a dedicated website where cultural heritage specialists can register online for volunteer roles.
