Invitations to participate in Conservation Survey 2006 were today posted to the Director (or equivalent) of over 300 collecting organisations and conservation/preservation businesses throughout Australia. The survey pack is also being sent to people who contacted us after the release of the First Announcement about this project.

Willing participants in the survey are being asked to return the green Informed Consent form by post in the provided stamped envelope (or by fax), to indicate their formal involvement in the survey and their preferred method of reponse.

Recent market testing has resulted in the provision of a web-based survey form as an alternative to telephone interview. Those opting to complete the web-form will be issued a unique User ID and Password to access the survey at our website from 16 January 2006. Telephone interviews may still be held from 16 January to 28 February, by arrangement.

Survey results will be made available on our website and will be of value to individual collecting and educational organisations, in addition to each of the four major collecting domains (archives, galleries, libraries and museums). Results will also assist the Collections Council in planning and coordination across the collections sector, and will provide a basis of advice to government on some collections sector needs.
