Significance (2001) Questionnaire activated

Today a web-based questionnaire for input into the review of Significance (2001) was made live on the Collections Council website. The survey will close on 7 May 2007. Any one interested in this publication, or the cultural heritage significance determination methodology it espouses, may contribute to this survey. Up to nine questions can be answered using tick boxes or short prose responses. Your input is most welcome and will inform planning for a second edition of this publication. Please see below for instructions on how to complete the survey and to access the Significance survey questionnaire.

Advice about this survey is being circulated to collections sector list-serves and via the Collections Council’s e-Bulletin #15.

Instructions for Significance (2001) Survey

The Collections Council of Australia intends to produce a second edition of Significance: a guide to assessing the significance of cultural heritage objects and collections (2001). We aim to broaden the scope of the first edition by including all four major collecting domains i.e. archives and libraries in addition to museums and galleries. We will also update the publication to take account of new developments and resources since 2001.

We would like to hear about your experiences since 2001 in working with the Significance publication and applying the established Significance methodology. Responses to this short questionnaire will inform our planning for a second edition of this publication.

  • To reflect your situation accurately, please tick as many boxes as necessary or insert short answers in the spaces provided.
  • Please supply answers to Questions 1 and 2 and then to any other questions you choose.
  • For Questions 3-5 and 7 please respond as generally or specifically as you wish. You may like to consider commenting on the format, design, appropriateness of language used / level of language, significance criteria, selection and range / coverage of case studies, ease of application, etc
  • Please enter your answers into this web form and click Submit when you have finished.
  • Closing date for responses was Monday 7 May 2007, but has now been extended by one week to Monday 14 May 2007.
